Our Lady of Graces

There is a special veneration of Our Lady of Graces in Youghal. This was the little statuette which was in the Dominican Abbey in Youghal- usually called the North Abbey. There are many legends about the statuette.

When Walter Raleigh sent his soldiers to knock down the abbey, a lady called Honora Fitzgerald took the statuette and brought it first to Ballymaloe and then to Pope’s Quay in Cork. Our Lady of Graces is still in Pope’s Quay, Cork with the Dominicans.

In May 1988 the Dominicans brought Our Lady Of Graces back to Youghal for a visit.Mass was said in the various estates. These are some photographs of the event.
